Toddler Sense Information Pack

What is Toddler Sense?

Welcome to Toddler Sense at West Perth. Toddler Sense is a whole new world of sensory stimulation, play, fun adventures and learning for you and your toddler.

Every Toddler Sense class is filled with creative and fun activities to help your toddler develop vital physical, communication, social, emotional and cognitive skills and to burn off excess energy.

Our classes focus on supporting toddlers to develop pre-school readiness skills, socialisation, sharing and co-operation through small group play.

Toddler Sense draws on research, and the work of child development theorists and childcare experts, to offer a complete approach to learning and development from 13 months to 4 years of age.

Why is this so important?  By the time a toddler  turns 3, the brain will weigh 80% that of an adult's and it will have twice as many neural connections.  Increases in weight are the result of brain cells growing larger and the development of connective pathways between them; the direct result of  activities and experiences. The right side of the brain is more developed in toddlers than the left and remains dominant until their fourth year.  The right hemisphere specialises in emotions, exploration, experimentation, inventiveness and creativity,  which explains why toddlers are impulsive, creative, curious, imaginative,  busy little people who enjoy new challenges.

Toddler Sense introduces toddlers to a whole new world of adventure!

Our activities are designed to keep children busy, active and stimulated by offering them a magical, multi-adventure experience in a safe and happy environment.

Our carefully planned classes aim:

  • to promote a positive attitude toward exercise

  • to engage and develop cognitive skills and problem solving

  • to develop imagination and creativity

  • to promote social and emotional development

  • to enhance language and communication skills

  • to develop an understanding of the world in a fun and energetic way

Each week introduces fresh, new ideas and an action-packed adventure. There is always something new and exciting to look forward to!

Did you know that...

Being with other children teaches important skills such as negotiation, turn-taking and co-operation.

What do we do in Class?

Every week at Toddler Sense is different!  Where will we go and what will we do this week?! Our class themes vary from Pirates to Superheroes to Animal Safari to Magic Gardens, and everything in between and more!

Even though every week is different, we always have the same routine with each 1 hour session divided into 2 balanced phases -  regular structure being important to young children as it helps them feel safe and prepares them for school!

Classes begin with free play in the Adventure Area, which includes bouncy castles, ball pits, soft play modules and more. This time helps children settle in to the class and become confident and familiar in their surroundings, not to mention an opportunity to burn off some energy whilst developing gross motor skills such as strength, balance, co-ordination and climbing. Children are encouraged to build new friendships and gain confidence as they interact with others. This is also a great opportunity for you to catch up with other caregivers.

After around 20 minutes, we encourage the toddlers to help us tidy away the equipment (which they love to do) sets a precedent for home but also reduces distraction during our structured play which is to follow for 30-35 minutes.

Our structured activities are all about laying the stepping stones for pre-kindy.  Toddlers are encouraged to be independent learners and come forward and collect their own equipment and to return it when finished.  In addition, activities will promote turn-taking, listening skills, following instructions, sharing and interaction through questioning.

We also introduce concepts such as direction, size and shape and later on, letter formation too- all whilst developing global development in other areas! These skills are all supported by the caregiver who attends so activities help to build on you and your toddler’s relationship.

Prices

Classes operate on a term basis, roughly aligned with school terms. As a result, bookings for the term are normally made in 10 week blocks with 10 x 1hr sessions being $240.

We also offer trial classes from time to time. Trial places occur within our normal class setting and are therefore subject to availability.

Ask us about our generous twin and group discounts for term bookings!

What do I need to bring?

Everything you need for activities during class will be provided for you! All you need to remember is your everyday changing bag and a pair of socks as we operate a no shoe policy and, ask all adults to wear socks to maintain hygiene.

Health and Safety

The health and safety of you and your toddler is of utmost importance to us at Toddler Sense.

We have developed a bespoke Baby Sensory and Toddler Sense COVID-19 Management and Safety Plan which contains our policies, processes and approaches to operating Toddler Sense classes in the COVID-19 environment, with a particular focus on how we can keep our Class Leaders and Customers safe.

All props and toys used for activities or in our play area are cleaned between classes which means your baby is free to mouth.  In fact, mouthing is an essential part of development and should not be discouraged unless it is unsafe for them to do so!

As an extra measure, we also have our red bucket in the play area which is great for when your baby has excessively mouthed anything during the play break.  Simply pop it in here to prevent other babies playing with it and we can give it a wipe before popping it back out. Rest assured that, even if it isn't in the red bucket at the end of class, everything still gets cleaned. You may see us doing a quick tidy at the end of the break but we're simply popping things into position, ready to be wiped down before the next class starts.

In addition, we have hand sanitizer which can be used on your arrival and we request socks are worn by adults during classes.  Any additional safety information will be given out as required during activities, as required

Missed Classes

We understand that from time to time, you may miss a class or your situation changes. As per the Toddler Sense Terms and Conditions, we are under no obligation to refund a booking once your block has commenced.

However, we encourage you to make-up any missed sessions during the term. Please (where possible) notify your class leader, or myself of any absences so we can accommodate make-up sessions. As an alternative, you can gift classes to a friend but this must be discussed with your class leader first.
